New No-Cost Audio Marketing Mediums

March 18, 2010 by

New innovations for “getting the word out” are popping up on the “dance floor” nearly every day. Today, I want to share with you a proactive online audio platform developed nearly two years ago by the guy who founded Blog Talk Radio, Alan Levy. This audio medium is simply called, “Cinch.”

“Cinch” is a no-cost (other-than-time) web/phone application that allows you, the producer (marketer) to easily record an audio message that instantly becomes embedded into your own Cinch account’s web page; and can immediately be syndicated to both your Twitter and Facebook audience (followers/friends/prospects).

I use “Cinch” to do short “Cinchcasts” such as “You Daily Word” and the “Daily Marketing Minute.” Both can be heard at: http://www.CinchCast.com/tony-marino

I would encourage you to take a close look at “Cinch” for yourself; keeping an open mind and asking yourself how you too might deploy audio messages to help get the “buzz” started for your business. It’s fun, easy, and effective.

Happy marketing!

Tony

The Art of Persistence

February 27, 2010 by

“It’s always too soon to quit!” – Norman Vincent Peale

There’s a lot to be said for perseverance. Careers and fortunes have been made by average people with no special career simply because they refused to quit.

What is it that separates the people who refuse to quit vs. those type of folks who give up at the first sign of resistance. Or, as W. C. Fields characterized with this observation: “If at first you don’t succeed, give up. No use being a damn fool about it.”

It is certainly a judgment call. Often I’ve been in situations that in retrospect I should have quit earlier. Should have gotten out, packed it up, sat on the sidelines, licked my wounds and planned my next attack.

And then there are those who never quit. Obstinate, we call them (obstinate: adj., perversely adhering to an opinion, purpose, or course in spite of reason, arguments, or persuasion; not easily subdued, remedied, or removed).

Of course it’s easy to say it comes from your upbringing. But by the time you’re an adult and you’ve entered a career or at least started following a path, there’s no way to pinpoint where that attitude crystallized and hardened.

“I’m no quitter.”

Those three words, if lived fully, will get you through hard times. They can also doom you. Try and figure out how and where the success is separated from the doom, and you’ll be forever scratching your head.

And then you can refute the ‘childhood’ theory by pointing to people you know or have heard of that simply found in themselves at a later age the will to persevere.

“I’ve quit too many times in my life – I’ve changed, and I’m going to see this through.”

Sure, I’ve done that. Still doing it on some things, even with outward signs of the success or progress I’d hoped for. Or at least the forward progress that tells me I’m actually making headway.

And still we persevere.

Why? Partly – if we think about it enough – to notice and absorb the lessons contained within.

Life is, if nothing else, a training ground, and the apt pupil will continually pick up on the signals that tell him what works and what doesn’t. Some of us, of course, pick up the lessons more quickly and apply them correctly. Others see the lesson, pick up the information, yet rarely apply it in any useful form.

Richard St. Johns has this great list:

The 8 Things That Lead to Success:

  • Passion
  • Work
  • Focus
  • Persist
  • Ideas
  • Good
  • Push
  • Serve

Notice that two of his list – 25% – have to do with persistence. Number 4, Persist (of course) and Number 9, Push.

As I alluded to earlier, persistence can at times be the wrong thing to do. Banging your head against the wall, no matter how persistent you are, cannot be the right thing to do. You’ll eventually flatten your head, making it difficult to think clearly when you do decide to change directions.

And a lot of success has to do with changing directions at the right time and the right way. The only way to correctly change directions is to recognize that the path you’re on needs correcting (for whatever reason), and then have the wits and intelligence to choose another path out of the thousands available. Sometimes it’s just a matter of making a minor adjustment. Other times it’s a wholesale discarding of the path you’re on.

In Public Speaking, of which I have a lot of experience, success comes by getting over fears and irrational apprehensions about making that next speech.

But as speakers quickly find out, if they speak regularly, that fear diminishes and is replaced by a growing confidence. And it takes confidence to stay on the path you want; it takes confidence to persevere.

And your self-image comes into this as well. If you have a good self-image and feel worthwhile on this planet, you’ll do good things with your life and your chances. If you have low self-worth, it’s either impossible or highly unlikely that you’ll be doing those things with any real success.

So no matter your pursuit, each step helps you grow. Put one foot in front of the other. Be sure to look up occasionally and chart your progress. You’ll be amazed.

Persistence gets you a long ways, no matter what else is going against you or in favor of you.
